Darshika Singhal strongly believes that a woman can achieve everything she desires for, all they need is an opportunity, support and the right guidance. As a women-led Conscious clothing brand, Araksa which means “something to be preserved” in Sanskrit aims to take the initiative to empower girls and women from underprivileged backgrounds to have an equal opportunity to contribute towards the country's overall development. Girls from disadvantaged sections of the society in India are often bound in a cycle of poverty owing to a lack of diversified education and skill-building opportunities. They are powerless and trapped in a vicious circle. In India, Girls are often pulled out of school to take over household responsibilities and many never have the chance to go back. Even in cases where they complete their education, they aren’t given the opportunity to work.
The Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, launched the Save & Educate Girl Child campaign in 2015, which addressed the dropping Child Sex Ratio (CSR) and associated concerns of women empowerment. Araksa intends to contribute to the Government of India's programme by empowering and nurturing young females.
The main objective behind Project Araksa is to empower women by organising and supporting vocational training programmes on a quarterly basis in collaboration with non-profit organisations across India. Empowering women and making eco-friendly clothes go hand in hand for us. Therefore, we will not wait till we bring in revenue before beginning our Project.
There is no limit to what we, as women, can achieve ~ Michelle Obama
